Introduction – The Kairos Course

What is Kairos?

  • A proven missions mobilisation tool for local churches

  • A look at the ‘Big Picture’ of what God is doing and an invitation to join in.

Where is it used?

  • Currently in 38 countries and 10 languages

  • Kairos international website lists:
Albania, Australia, Bangladesh, Botswana, Brazil, China, Finland, Germany, India,  Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Netherlands,  New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Romania, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, USA, Vietnam.

History

  • Originally called the Condensed World Mission Course (CWMC).

  • Was pioneered in the Philippines by Living Springs International (LSI) in 1994

  • Based on ‘Perspectives on the World Christian Movement’, and Dr Jonathan Lewis’ ‘World Mission’ courses.

  • Now in its third edition, and under the name Kairos, this course is being used in more than thirty countries and has been translated into ten languages.

How does it work?

  • Kairos is a nine-session, interactive course on world Christian mission, designed to educate, inspire and challenge Christians to active and meaningful participation.

  • It is ideally suited to be conducted in local churches, organizations or with special interest groups such as Christian businesspeople.

  • Kairos utilizes a variety of adult learning styles including group discussions, short lecture introduction, devotions, video teaching and student participation in specially designed activities.

  • Kairos looks at the four main areas of mission concern which are the Biblical, Historical, Strategic and Cultural dimensions of mission (See Curriculum for detailed outline).

But does it work?

“Since 1994 over 20 000 Filipinos have taken Kairos. It has helped in seeing a ‘missions movement’ sweep through the Filipino Church resulting in the Filipino Church moving from being ‘missionary receiving’ to ‘missionary sending’. All thirteen unreached people groups in the country now have one or more fellowships of worshipping believers and the Filipino Church now ranks as one of the top ten missionary sending countries of the world!”

Tesimonies

  • The Kairos course has helped us (as a church) to deepen the missions interest of our members. The interactive nature of the course provides many opportunities to guide and bring understanding on many mission issues.
Mission Pastor. Church of Our Saviour, Singapore

  • Every local church should use this tool in preparing itself for active missions
Pastor Jack Geurin,  New Zealand Apostolic Mission Director

  • We run the course twice each year. It is a great tool to inspire, motivate and equip teams to reach out to the nations.
Pastor Peter Chen, Kenmore Baptist, Brisbane, Australia

  • I have been in ministry for 32 years and a missionary for 18 years.  This course is one of the best I have come across.
Dr Charles Dewing,   Seminary Lecturer, USA

Related to "Perspectives"

Kairos is part of the “Perspectives Family.” It has the “Perspectives” DNA -. i.e. it has the same key ideas in a less academic format suitable for use in churches.

Testimonies about the original Perspectives course:

  • Without a doubt, nothing has had more profound effect in missions in the last 25 years than the Perspectives course.  Participants learn so much, from the way they view the Bible to the way they view the world.  It's a life-changer.  If I was in charge, every single person who goes on a mission trip of any length would take the Perspectives Course prior to going.
Doug Priest - President, Christian Missionary Fellowship.

  • I know of no other program that can more radically and fundamentally change a church's inward focus into a missions-driven focus, resulting in scores of people mobilized into missions and prayer for missions.  In my opinion, Perspectives should be mandatory for every pastor and everyone planning to go into ministry.  In fact, it's great for every church member everywhere.
Jeffrey S. Johnston - Communications Director, Asian Access

(Sak 8:22-23)

Hva betyr Kairos?
